This is a beautiful performance by Andrew Bird and St Vincent as captured by La Blogotheque, a French run blog about music. This site has many wonderful articles and videos about various known and unknown artists. Even though most of the site is in French, the content is gold. Definitely worth checking out: www.blogotheque.net

While you wait for things

I love everything about Grizzly Bear. Their albums and music videos have distinct aesthetics that I strike a bell with me, and this video is especially beautifully mesmerizing. This video uses images and movement to capture the tone of the song and really working to create a specific feeling for the audience. It is interesting that Grizzly Bear has gained so much popularity since the pieces they produce seem a little strange to be liked by so many people. Maybe everyone is feeling a little strange these days and see their personal weirdness reflected in these music videos.

There is something about the backyard swimming pool that appeals to so many people. However, I have fallen in love with the Natural Swimming pool idea.

I love swimming in lakes, water holes, the ocean, and streams. This idea of the Green pool is beautiful to me.

I came across this idea from a post on this Going Green type website called Green By Design. You should definitely check it out.

Green By Design is a site that hosts a variety of green design alternatives for many of our everyday things.

The Natural Swimming Pool is a pool that is integrated into the backyard and uses many processes already found in nature to save energy and refresh itself. Instead of using harsh pool chemicals, for example, the pool uses aquatic plants to aid in the cleaning and purifying process.

Here is a diagram offered by the New York Times explaining the setup:

Like most people, I want to live my life in the best way possible, and who says we all can’t have certain luxuries? The backyard swimming pool is something I would like to have and this Natural pool idea realizes that dream as well as working with the environment instead of against it.

This is a short profile of artist Lawrence Weiner. I found it to be an insightful interview offering wisdom for both young artists and designers alike.

I try to take in all I can from the experience of other artists, since I cannot talk to them in person, I watch their interviews. By learning all I can I hope to influence my work in a positive way.

Recently when I was at my favorite store, Anthropologie, I discovered a book for which I have developed a deep and lasting love, Beachlife: Interior Design and Architecture at the Seaside.

This book has beautiful photographs and descriptions of houses, restaurants, and various furniture that designers and architects all over the world have created to contribute to and enhance life by the sea.

It is worth going to a bookstore, or Anthropologie, and at least looking through this book. It made me long for the simple luxuries of living by the sea in a beautifully designed home. The Periscope houses of Rotterdam in the Netherlands is what made me fall hard for this book.

periscope houses There is something about these houses being right on the water and so open that just is very appealing. The complete geometry is very livable but gives space even with everything connected together.

This book will hopefully be a part of my life soon.

Donald Judd was an artist who strongly advocated permanent installations by artists in carefully selected environments. This is a short video of Judd discussing art and its exhibition, and how the two are inseparable. Art can only exist if the artist is free.
